GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Department of Transportation will close Irving Lee Street at the southbound Interstate 35 frontage road and Belmont Drive on Oct. 7 for utility and drainage upgrades, with work expected to last through early November. Alternate routes for northbound and southbound I-35 traffic have been planned—drivers should follow them during the closure.  KCENTV
  • City Manager Bradley Ford announced earlier this month that he will step down at the end of February—city council has hired a search firm to find his replacement.  Waco Tribune-Herald
  • City officials said a federally funded project to replace the Speegleville Road bridge over the Middle Bosque River might begin next fall—other nearby public works projects are starting soon.  Waco Tribune-Herald

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Texas homebuyers chose new construction at 30%—twice the national rate—between July 2023 and June 2024, and local realtors said McLennan County saw a 20% jump in new builds as builders offered low rates and closing cost help. Realtors also noted a rising trend in multigenerational purchases that made these homes attractive.  KXXV

  • Three athletes—Brian Grissom from Little River Academy, Sha'Drach Gordon from Killeen and Oakley Goins from Harker Heights—are in the running for KCEN’s Player of the Week as fans cast votes today via KCEN’s sports channels. Goins was noted for his 43-yard game-winning field goal that helped secure a 24-21 win.  KCENTV
