- ➤ A local nonprofit — Grassroots — replaced the roof of longtime Waco homeowner Lucille Thomas after her ceiling leaked and insurance would not cover repairs, as she qualified based on her fixed income and current property taxes. The roof repair program, funded by City of Waco grants, accepts applications through November 3. KXXV
- ➤ KWBU exceeded its $300K pledge goal in 25 years and is now planning to raise an additional $200K by Dec. 31 to sustain operations—its membership has doubled from last year but remains only half of what is needed for long-term support. Waco Tribune-Herald

- ➤ Three major industrial projects are underway in Waco as Graphic Packaging International finalizes its recycled paperboard facility to open later this year+ Electrolit’s $400 million beverage plant will start production early next year and Walmart’s $380 million milk processing plant is set to open in 2026 to serve Texas dairy farms. - ➤ Sergio’s Food Truck closed after a three-decade run downtown—ending Sergio Garcia's legacy while Umiya Sushi secured a $48,500 permit to remake the former Don Carlos building at Texas Central Marketplace. Other business news includes SpaceX topping the valuable private companies list at $400 billion, Hunt Companies planning a 478-acre community in Belton with over 1,500 homes available in 2027, and Webster Market hosting a grand opening Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with live music and samples from Casa do Brasil. - ➤ Baylor University announced that John Singletary, dean of the School of Social Work, will step down on Oct. 15 to focus on his health and family — he plans to return later for interdisciplinary research on mental health. Interim dean Luci Ramos Hoppe will lead the school as the university begins a national search for his successor in late spring. KXXV

- ➤ Fans in Waco can visit the Texas Sports Hall of Fame from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct 10 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct 11 to buy, sell and trade sports collectibles with national dealers, as Baylor University greats Greg Hawthorne and Terry Teagle are scheduled to appear—helping verify memorabilia with the JSA service. - ➤ Baylor Athletics renovated four baby care rooms at McLane Stadium and Foster Pavilion to give parents a private space—complete with diapers, children's books and TVs—for comfort during games. University officials said the new lounges help families stay longer and enjoy the gameday experience. KCENTV
