  • Residents along Tom Ledbetter Road say heavy truck traffic kicks up dust that harms their health and property—county staff noted past fixes have failed and will meet this week to plan a solution, though a permanent fix will cost a lot of money.  KXXV

CULTURE NEWS

  • During a demolition project in Lufkin, workers uncovered a 1920s Dr Pepper mural hidden in an old jailhouse and the city paused work to explore preservation options. Experts note the vintage find shows early soft drink ads and officials will decide its future soon (the artwork features the famous 10, 2 and 4 slogan).  KCENTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Pete Sessions confirmed he and other lawmakers are still being paid during the government shutdown—now in its seventh day—while local residents express frustration over the ongoing closure. Sessions said the shutdown’s end will require bipartisan Senate support.  KXXV
  • The Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization earned a national award for its Convey 2050 transportation plan at a 2025 conference in Providence, Rhode Island. The award—given for strong planning—shows its work to guide transportation for the next 25 years.  KCENTV
  • Waco leaders announced plans to purchase 22.8 acres at 500 North University Parks Drive and 324 Jefferson Avenue for $32.2 million to redevelop downtown—blending the city’s heritage with future needs. The city and Waco ISD will work together to include discounted graduation sites and free local event space for school events.  KXXV
