- ➤ Waco’s The Backyard was sold to LightStream Presents after 10 years of live music and local gatherings—new owners will make minor improvements like modern bathrooms while keeping its classic vibe intact. KCENTV
- ➤ At La Economica de Tierra Caliente, owner Marcia Ximena de la Paz Benitez transforms recycled cardboard into handmade piñatas that carry a centuries-old tradition from China to Mexico and serve for birthdays, Easter and other celebrations in Waco (this craft preserves cultural heritage). She takes several weeks to complete a design while some custom pieces are finished in under 2 days (processing time varies by order). KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal shutdowns have slowed federal staff, but the Waco Mammoth National Monument stays open—City of Waco, with support from the Mammoth Foundation and Baylor University, arranged for weekend help to run the dig shelter. The site will host the Fall Fossil Festival on October 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. as it continues to offer public access. KXXV
