- ➤ The Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo ended Oct. 12 in Waco with 201,408 people enjoying rodeo events, live music, livestock competitions and agricultural exhibits. Organizers said strong weather and an expanded lineup helped drive attendance (3% lower than last year) while supporting local youth scholarships. KXXV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Waco Drive now features 11 colorful metal boxes painted by local artists to brighten the street and deter graffiti—each artist is paid for their work. The city will begin accepting submissions for new designs on November 1. KXXV
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Freddie Mac reported that the 30-year fixed mortgage rate dropped to 6.27% last week—spurring more refinance applications as buyers acted quickly before home prices rose. Realtor Haleema Rahim said if buyers are ready they should lock in now because experts expect rates will fall further by year-end. KXXV
- ➤ The historic Old Waco High on Columbus Avenue will undergo a $23.5M renovation to preserve 104 affordable housing units and key original features such as high school lockers and classroom doors. Investors plan to update the building in phases — working on 15 to 20 units at a time while some tenants temporarily relocate as renovations begin next year. KXXV
