EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marlin ISD picked Alphonso Bates as its new superintendent at a board meeting over the weekend to end a long search. He will start his three-year contract on Monday—he brings over 25 years in public education and plans to boost academics in the district.  KXXV
  • Waco ISD is under pressure to improve school performance— a Friday morning visit showed dim lights and empty central offices at its downtown headquarters, and experts warn that the district could face state intervention if key turnarounds are not achieved soon.  Waco Tribune-Herald
  • Former archbishop of Canterbury and scholar Rowan Williams will speak in Waco—his lecture The Word Was With God: Trinitarian Reflections on the Anniversary of the Council of Nicaea will explain how the 1,700th anniversary of the council changed Christian belief.  Waco Tribune-Herald
