- ➤ WWII veteran PFC Florencio Davila was laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery after community members and Fort Hood soldiers ensured he received military honors—fulfilling his dying wish. The burial took place on October 27th after local officials and volunteers worked to overcome delays from the government shutdown. KCENTV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Waco Civic Theatre plans a $200,000 renovation that will add larger bathrooms, dressing rooms and an expanded gift shop along with a new box office as it prepares for the Frozen musical opening Thursday. Future plans include adding classrooms and finishing a new lobby and bathrooms by early 2026 pending donations and grant funding. KCENTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Since 1966, EOAC’s Head Start has helped low-income families in Central Texas by offering early education and health services to children from birth to age five. The program now serves more than 500 children in McLennan and Falls counties — demand is growing as more families seek infant and toddler care. KCENTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Texas A&M Forest Service approved $164 million in grants for volunteer fire departments across Texas and North Zulch received funds to buy a new water tender that will arrive by February. The tanker will nearly double the department's capacity and help firefighters respond faster in an area with few hydrants. KXXV
- ➤ Waco officials updated food truck rules that ban direct utility hookups, limit seating, and require vendors to remain mobile after a city council vote last week (a move to update open-air vending practices). Waco Tribune-Herald
- ➤ Waco is moving forward with major downtown changes as it redevelops Barron's Branch and starts a $26 million Riverwalk project early next year—plans that include new zoning rules, utility work, and updated lighting systems. City officials are funding these projects with a direct note purchase program and ask for public feedback on the redevelopment draft until Nov. 20. KXXV
