Good morning, Waco.

A new Chick-Fil-A opens today on Creekview Drive at 2417—locally owned by Texas native Jake Roye, who has been part of the community since 1996—and is the city’s fifth location.

The restaurant will offer dine-in from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays while its drive-thru remains open one hour beyond in-store hours.

The Falls County Sheriff’s Office led a multi-agency operation that resulted in over 20 arrests tied to a drug trafficking ring active since April 2024—residents said the bust brought long-awaited relief and renewed hope for community safety.

On Wednesday, the Texas House debated a package of school-related bills that includes a teacher pay raise of up to $10,000, school choice, and elimination of STAAR testing.

Representative Pat Curry said the package gives teachers a pathway to six-figure salaries — a key priority for Governor Abbott — and a vote is expected soon.

Travel experts from Texas will come to Waco for the Texas Travel Counselors Conference from April 27 to May 1 to share tips and help bring more visitors to the city—meeting at local spots like the Dr Pepper Museum and Cameron Park Zoo.

The event is run by Texas Travel Alliance and TXDOT and shows how Waco is growing as a fun place for food, art, music and shopping.

The City of Waco’s Annual Report for 2024 is now available and shows a financial summary, local statistics and snapshots of accomplishments by the City Council, city staff and partners—marking a successful year for local government.
